Rapid Betterment of the Sexual Health of Men: How is That Possible?
Impotence is a sexual disorder
that men often have difficulty dealing with, including with their partner or
doctor. Impotence, or erectile dysfunction in medical jargon, refers to the
impossibility of having an erection, very often resulting in unsatisfactory
sexual intercourse. To speak more concretely, either the penis is not rigid
enough to allow coitus, or the erection is not long enough to reach orgasm.
Aging, stress, diabetes, medical treatment, alcohol, smoking: an overview of
the causes of impotence.
A man with disorders of erection
or is downright unable to have may well feel desire, have an orgasm and
ejaculate, either through masturbation or by rubbing his genitals on those of
his partner. Some men even manage to breed one or more children without having
sufficient erections to allow penetration (their partner becomes pregnant
because they ejaculate on the vulva or at the entrance of the vagina).
For against, as erection forms
part of the normal sexual response, the disorder of erection is considered an
anomaly and a possible symptom of an underlying disease. Subject still taboo,
erection disorders are however frequent: one in 10 men suffers during his life.
From the age of fifty, the risk of being affected increases sharply. The
erectile dysfunction may be of physiological origin (in 50% of cases),
psychological or mixed origin.
Erectile dysfunction of physiological origin:
·
Rare in healthy men under 50 and more common in
older men;
·
Disappearance of nocturnal or morning erections;
·
Settles more often in a gradual way, over months
and even years;
·
Inability (total or partial) to achieve or
maintain an erection under any circumstances;
·
Is reversible in many cases
Erectile dysfunction of psychological origin:
·
Nocturnal or morning erections preserved;
·
Complete erection during masturbation;
·
Disorder that most often occurs suddenly;
·
Occurs only under certain circumstances;
·
Does not seem associated with any disease
What are the causes of erectile dysfunction (or sexual impotence)?
Erectile dysfunction of physiological origin:
Abnormalities of the blood vessels. Vascular, arterial or venous
disorders are responsible for a large proportion of cases. The most common
diseases include hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure , high
cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia) and diabetes .
Some drugs. Antihypertensives, antidepressants, antipsychotics,
anticonvulsants for epilepsy, cimetidine (to decrease gastric acid secretion)
and high doses of anxiety medications (Activan, Valium, etc.) may affect
vascular mechanism of erection.
Radical prostatectomy (removal of the prostate). This surgery helps
treat prostate cancer. As it cannot be done by natural means, it sometimes
reaches the nerves of the penis, causing an erectile disorder in 50 to 60% of
cases.
Smoking. It is a major cause of erectile dysfunction because it
aggravates hypertension and arteriosclerosis and promotes venous leakage
(inability of penile veins to retain blood).
Erectile dysfunction of psychological origin:
Anxiety of performance. It is the
main psychological cause of erectile dysfunction. The sufferer is afraid of not
being able to have an erection or to keep it long enough for his or her
partner's satisfaction.
Other psychological factors
Problems in the couple, hostility towards the partner, sexual lassitude, bad
sexual education, professional difficulties, job loss, financial worries,
fatigue, a breakup, a period of Sexual abstinence and withdrawal from drugs or
alcohol after a period of abuse are some of the factors that can lead to an
erection problem.
